Joseph was sitting at the huge desk in his office with a drink in front of him and a beloved cigar tucked inside his pocket waiting to be lit. Sitting across from him was Courtney Tucker, Avery Schwartz, Erin Bregon, and Mallory Meeks. The women heâd helped match with his Special Ops team members. The day before, as heâd been doing just a few pushups before Katherine caught him and gave him a tongue lashing, heâd had a revelation as to how he wanted to approach the trial of the soon-to-be former Senator Anna Miller.
âThank you for coming today,â Joseph said as he looked at each woman with a warm smile.
They each responded with their gratitude at being invited to meet with him. He could see their confusion, but they were patient as he waited to explain his reason for meeting that day.
âHow are you feeling, Mr. Anderson?â Erin asked.
âAll of you â please â call me Joseph,â he said with a full smile. âI insist.â Heâd learned people felt uncomfortable calling him by his first name, but when he gave the look, few argued. Heâd noticed over the years how they managed not to call him anything then, avoiding a name all together. That amused him. He loved freaking out board members telling them to call him Joseph. They didnât know what in the heck to do and always looked as if they were a herd of deer and a fleet of semis was heading straight for them. The women were a bit more composed than the men.
âIâm feeling fine. In fact, I was doing pushups yesterday right here next to the desk. Katherine came in and huffed and puffed, but you know sheâs all bark,â he said with an exaggerated wink. He knew he was safe in saying that as his wife was nowhere nearby. Heâd never risk those words otherwise. The women laughed, even though he knew they knew he was a puppet with his wife holding the strings. He loved her more than life itself.
âDuring those pushups I had a revelation. As youâre all aware, ex-Senator Anna Miller was arrested and just went through her bail hearing. She was denied bail and her trial is set in approximately eight weeks.â
âI know about the case, but honestly not that much,â Erin said, the first to speak.
âIâve been following it,â Courtney piped in, excitement in her eyes.
âYouâre reporting on it, arenât you?â Joseph asked as he zeroed in on the reporter whoâd interviewed Eyes and Sleep years ago. There were definite sparks flying between Eyes and her now. He couldnât wait to see how it all played out.
âYes,â she said. âIâm anxious for it to begin. This is very high profile. Too many politicians get away with murder. Itâs about time one of them gets busted.â
âI couldnât agree more. Iâm sure the four of you are wondering why Iâve called you in and how you all fit into this.â He couldnât wait to share his plan.
The four women nodded as they sat up a bit straighter.
